We were thrilled to welcome Becky Fisher (MSJ 2011) back to speak at our recent Prizegiving & Commemoration. Becky, a junior doctor currently training to be a general surgeon, has made remarkable strides in both medicine and academic research since leaving MSJ. Starting her journey in our junior department in 2003, Becky went on to earn degrees from Edinburgh Medical School, King’s College London, and Imperial College London, before being awarded a full scholarship to pursue her PhD in medical education at the University of Manchester.
Becky’s research has gained international recognition, particularly for her work on gender equity in surgical careers. Her groundbreaking research on sexual harassment in surgery was featured on the front page of The Times last year, underscoring her role as a leading advocate for diversity and inclusion in the medical field.
Her inspirational words to our students highlighted the importance of perseverance, hard work, and the need to challenge inequalities. Becky’s journey from MSJ to becoming a respected surgeon and academic is a testament to what our students can achieve with passion and dedication. We are incredibly grateful for her time and the invaluable advice she shared, which will no doubt leave a lasting impact on our Year 13s as they prepare to embark on their own paths beyond MSJ.
